Overview
The Add a new item function allows you to create a maintenance item directly from the Maintenance page for the selected aircraft.
Maintenance items are used to monitor scheduled maintenance requirements throughout the aircraft's lifecycle. Depending on your organisation's procedures and system configuration, maintenance items may be created manually by engineering personnel or generated through other operational workflows, such as reported defects, intermittent faults or integrated maintenance systems.
When creating a maintenance item, you can define one or more maintenance limits, including flight hours, flight cycles, calendar limits and APU hours. You can also configure how the maintenance schedule repeats after completion and apply optional warning and display settings.
Use this feature to:
- Create a scheduled maintenance item.
- Record an out-of-phase maintenance requirement.
- Create a life limited part.
- Configure maintenance limits for an aircraft, component or system.
Before you begin
- Sign in to the Tech Log Web Dashboard.
- Select the required aircraft.
Open the Maintenance page.
Create a maintenance item
- Select + Add a New Item.
A slide-out panel opens on the right-hand side of the page.
Select the maintenance item type
Choose the type of maintenance item you want to create.
The available options are:
- Scheduled
- Out of Phase
- Life Limited Parts
Select the option that best represents the maintenance requirement being created.
Select the aircraft area
Use the Area list to specify where the maintenance item applies.
Available options may include:
- Airframe
- Engine 1
- Engine 2
- APU
Additional aircraft areas may be available depending on your aircraft configuration.
Note: The available areas are determined by your aircraft configuration.
Enter the task description
In Task Description, enter a concise description of the maintenance activity.
Choose a description that clearly identifies the maintenance task for engineering personnel reviewing the aircraft's maintenance schedule.
Configure flight hour limits
Use the Flight Hours Limit section to schedule maintenance based on aircraft flight hours.
Complete the fields that apply to the maintenance requirement:
- Threshold
- Interval
- Tolerance
- Next Due (Hours and Minutes)
If flight hours are not used to control the maintenance item, this section can be left blank.
Configure flight cycle limits
Use the Flight Cycle Limit section to schedule maintenance based on flight cycles.
The available fields are:
- Threshold
- Interval
- Tolerance
- Next Due
Complete the fields that are relevant to your maintenance schedule.
Configure calendar limits
Use the Flight Month Limit section to schedule maintenance using calendar-based intervals.
First, select the Limit Type:
- Days
- Months
Then complete the available fields:
- Threshold
- Interval
- Tolerance
- Next Due
The Next Due field uses a calendar date.
Add a time due (optional)
If the maintenance item must be completed by a specific time on the due date:
- Select Unlock Time Due.
- Enter the required time.
To remove the time requirement, select Remove Time Due.
Configure APU hour limits
Use the APU Hour Limit section when scheduling maintenance against Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) operating hours.
The available fields are:
- Threshold
- Interval
- Tolerance
- Next Due (Hours and Minutes)
Complete the fields appropriate for the maintenance schedule.
Configure the repeat schedule
The Repeat From section determines how the next maintenance interval is calculated after the maintenance item has been completed.
Select one of the following options:
- Date Resolved – Calculate the next maintenance interval from the date the maintenance item is completed.
- Date Due – Calculate the next maintenance interval from the scheduled due date.
Choose the option that matches your organisation's maintenance planning procedures.
Override the amber warning (optional)
By default, maintenance items change from a green status to an amber warning using the system's configured thresholds.
If required, you can override the default values for this maintenance item.
Enter values for:
- Days Threshold
- Hours Threshold
If no values are entered, the system defaults are used.
Configure custom settings (optional)
Use Custom Settings to control whether the maintenance item appears on the Planned Maintenance List (PML).
Select one of the following options:
- Show on PML
- Hide on PML
Save the maintenance item
After entering the required information:
- Review the maintenance item.
- Select Save and Complete.
The maintenance item is added to the aircraft's maintenance schedule and becomes available from the Maintenance page.
Summary
The Add a New Item function allows engineering personnel to create maintenance items directly from the Tech Log Web Dashboard. Maintenance items can be configured using flight hour, flight cycle, calendar and APU limits, helping maintenance teams plan, monitor and complete scheduled maintenance activities for a selected aircraft.
